I know what we both think of Government running things, but allowing consumers to piggyback on the Government net sounds great

Problem is that the Bells are fighting municipal broadband tooth and nail. And winning.

I'm not hopeful. I have firsthand experience with SBC's attitude towards broadband, and it ain't pretty. I expect DSL stagnation now.
