QLogic Blade Server Switch is Market Share Leader Monday August 8, 8:00 am ET IDC Reports That Company is Number One in Both Revenue and Ports Shipped
ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Aug. 8, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- QLogic(r) Corp. (NasdaqNM:QLGC - News), the leader in Fibre Channel blade server embedded switches, today announced that QLogic ranked number one in market share for blade server embedded Fibre Channel switches in both ports shipped and revenue in calendar year 2004, according to a new report from IDC, entitled ``Worldwide Fibre Channel Switch 2005-2009 Forecast and 2004 Vendor Shares.''
``In 2004, QLogic remained the leading supplier of blade server embedded switches,'' stated the report. According to IDC, QLogic maintained its number one position in embedded Fibre Channel switch market share with 68.5 percent of revenues and 64.4 percent of ports shipped.
``The addition of several new bladed server platforms from leading server vendors such as HP, Dell, Sun, and Intel promises to greatly expand the market opportunity in 2005,'' the report stated. ``In addition, IDC expects McDATA to begin reselling its version of the QLogic switch, further driving expansion.'' By 2009, the report estimates that blade server embedded switches will rapidly approach fixed port switches in terms of factory revenue ($309 million) and will be the largest Fibre Channel switch market in terms of ports shipped.
``The IDC report validates the QLogic switch market strategy to achieve leadership by creating new classes of solutions,'' said Frank Berry, vice president of marketing, QLogic Corp. ``The company is also successfully employing this strategy with stackable switch and SMB switch solutions.''
