thirdeye, Credit for rough's number 1? I dunno 'bout that, it's just not that black and white. We're talking womens emotions here <ggg>. I think that cindy's initial meeting with the pres and the so-called "possitive report" is being twisted a bit.
People must think these meetings aren't carefully orchestrated, but they are, to produce a predicted outcome of praise for the pres., meet with widows, and if any of the widows come to their senses and really ask him what they NEED to know later on when they can think straight, well, he can say "I've already met them". It's beautiful. Many birds with one stone. So, why mess with perfection, It's now a best practice for Bush and he never strays from the operating script. Women are getting tired of the script.
In these rooms of grieving woman, the president's presence is truly to honor the men who died. So, how could any statement coming out in these meetings be anything but "we thank the pres. for this meeting", "it shows he truly cares about our our beloved husbands" and other praise type comments... against the war or not, he's talking about my husband and how wonderful he is! What else would people expect them to say? Exactly that, is what. Bush has used this way of dealing with widows cause it works so well, for *him*. These meetings are not designed to comfort the "woman", and if you talk to many of them, they'll tell you, they felt that.
