Philips Expands DVD-Video Player Line; New DVD-Video Player First to Offer Remote Jog/Shuttle Feature, Video CD Capability
ATLANTA, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Philips Electronics today announced the next generation in Philips' DVD-Video player line and the newest addition to the company's innovative digital product portfolio. Available in October at national retailers, the Philips Magnavox 420AT DVD-Video player has a suggested retail price of $649.95 and expands upon the exceptional value and performance of Philips' first DVD-Video player launched earlier this year. Like its predecessor, the Philips Magnavox 420AT DVD-Video player offers consumers stunning movie theater-quality picture and sound for home theater systems, but with significant new features for customized movie viewing, including the advanced flexibility of playing video CDs, greater choice of sound and viewing preferences with dynamic range control and digital zoom, and the first universal remote enhanced with jog/shuttle and Philips' popular remote locator function. A special consumer DVD-Video software offer will accompany the launch of the Philips Magnavox 420AT DVD-Video player, according to Robert Harris, vice president and general manager, Interactive Products, Philips Electronics. Five free DVD titles from a selected list, a $150 value, will be offered with the Philips Magnavox 420AT model. "Philips is proud to expand its DVD-Video line with the Philips Magnavox 420AT DVD-Video player," said Harris. "Building upon the high quality core digital functions of our introductory DVD-Video player, we have added top-of- the-line features and capabilities that make the Philips Magnavox 420AT DVD- Video player the consumer's choice in digital video and audio performance for home theater."
Universal Remote with Jog/Shuttle and Remote Locator The Philips Magnavox 420AT is the first DVD-Video player to offer a universal remote with jog/shuttle. Movie enthusiasts and film buffs can locate their favorite scenes and dialog quickly by simply utilizing the jog/shuttle control on the remote. This innovative feature, unique to the Philips Magnavox 420AT, further enhances the DVD-Video experience by providing a fun and exciting new way to customize movie viewing at home. For added convenience, the universal remote will also control the channel and volume controls of most televisions, as well as the volume control of most receivers. The Philips Magnavox 420AT DVD-Video player also includes Philips' popular Remote Locator. If the remote control is misplaced, viewers can simply push the power button on the 420AT DVD-Video player and the remote will "beep," enabling them to find the remote easily.
Video CD Capability Offering greater versatility, the Philips Magnavox 420AT also plays any video CD, in addition to DVD-Video discs and audio compact discs. "Video CD capability further strengthens the value of the Philips Magnavox 420AT DVD- Video player as the key component of any home theater system," Harris said. "Philips' customers can take full advantage of the wealth of entertainment and information resources available digitally today and in the future."
Dynamic Range Control and Digital Zoom With Dynamic Range Control, viewers can reduce the intensity of the audio track playback, if desired. The video versatility of the Philips Magnavox 420AT Digital-Video player is also enhanced with the new Digital Zoom feature, which allows viewers to zoom in to any scene during playback for a closer look. "While DVD provides earth-shattering audio performance previously achievable only in movie theaters, there are times when such wide dynamic range is not desired at home -- late at night, for example, when children and others may be sleeping," said Harris. "Dynamic Range Control and Digital Zoom are two more innovative ways that the Philips Magnavox 420AT DVD-Video player puts consumers in the `director's chair' and gives them the power to tailor movie viewing at home to their personal preferences."
Dual Gold-Plated Stereo Audio Outputs and Headphone Jack with Volume Control Two versatile audio features make viewing movies at home with the Philips Magnavox DVD-Video player more convenient and user-friendly. Dual gold-plated stereo audio outputs allow audio connections to be made simultaneously to a television and a stereo, enabling users to listen to DVD through either source without changing connections. A headphone jack with volume control provides yet another personalized audio option. The Philips Magnavox 420AT DVD-Video player also includes all of the core digital features of the original 400AT model, including digital AC-3 output, composite video output, S-Video output, and multi-language, subtitles, and camera angle capabilities.
