After the discussions between Arafat and Barak failed, a group of Palestinians and Israelis continued the process in Geneva. The idea was that because both sides had no political constituency to answer to, they could sit with each other and negotiate like normal people instead of political jerks...I remember the process and the report but not the names...anyway, the short version is that Israel withdraws to the 1967 border. There are a couple of cities that are over the line and Israel gets to keep them but will compensate for that by giving up land on the other side. There will be no Bantustan solution as Sharon desires so badly. There will be a road connecting Gaza to the West Bank, and God will be declared sovereign in Jerusalem and everyone can interpret that as they please (in practical terms this means there will be some rules for garbage collection and care of the city but it will be given a special status that allows sharing rather than owning the city).

Personally I think Israel should either give Gaza back to Egypt or just keep it. BUT, it should connect Golan to the West Bank and carve out a narrow strip along Lebanon to the sea so that Palestinians have access to the sea as well.

Anyway this solution would acceptable to most. The late King Fahd in fact suggested such a solution when he called for Israel to withdraw to 1967 borders and all Arab nations to normalize relations with Israel.

So the solution is out there if people want it.
