Not poppycock. We could have saved 58,000 American lives by avoiding that senseless war known as Viet Nam. We certainly could have reduced the American causalities by cutting our losses and coming home when it was obvious that it was unwinnable. A combination of machoism and greed put us in Viet Nam and kept us there far longer than we should have been. Nixon even interferred with the 1968 Viet Nam peace accords which probably prolonged the war for 7 more years.

In fact, there probably wouldn't even have been a Viet Nam war if it wasn't for American meddling in their affairs in the 1950s after the French were defeated. The Viet Namese were ready to unite as one country as that point under Ho Chi Min (go look it up). But, the U.S. didn't like that arrangement, so we used our power in the UN to force a partition into North and South, which led to the Viet Nam war of later decades. We certainly did the Viet Namese no favors, or our own country any favors, by bombing the hell out of them. They would have been better off if we'd minded our own business in the 1950s and let them chose their own destiny.

If the U.S. government wants to protect me, they can do one simple thing, build a barrier in the Interstate highway I use to commute to work. There's only a grass median of 30-feet between me and death with an oncoming car out of control. Those sort of accidents happen more often than I care to think about and are entirely preventable with a small investment in safety and saving lives. What does that make me thing? Do they care about saving American lives or profiteering from war? I am far far more likely to die on an unsafe American highway than at the hands of an Iraqi. Why on earth are we spending so much money on THAT country which doesn't even posses WMDs? You conservatives have stopped making sense.
