i never experienced anyone coming for corporate interview without a jacket. there are formal things you do when you are being competitive for a job. first impression is important . i assume you feel the large corps interviewing on campus would select you over others because you do not conform. i highly doubt it. You would have set yourself up for questionable character, one who cannot accept suggestions , be a team player.

I think if a young lady came in a dress business suit , 4.0 average , leadership skills demonstrated in various volunteer events, and you came in with the same credentials the young lady who went the extra effort to present herself would win out every time. After all we are looking for women who can break the glass ceiling, yes. Who can go into board rooms , make presentations. It would be questionable if a person took their opportunity to sell themselves to a corp recruiter in casual clothing as being sincere.

When a recruiter goes on campus usually it is posted several weeks in advance. If a top company then you may get fifty or more sign up to interview. If you plan to interview one day on campus then you would force rank the fifty based on resume and select out maybe ten to interview. If they really look outstanding you may stay another day or take another person along with you. Remember these students are not only in competition within the college for a job but recruiters are doing interviews at twenty, thirty more colleges. this is only the first step for a senior entering the corp world.. If he or she gets a second interview they may have five more executives interview them. also there are ten more that were referred from the same college or other colleges for potential job offers.

Casual wouldn't get you past the first interview unless you had extending circumstances. These students do their homework. they network with others who work at the corp.,review literature on the corp., they talk with their deans etc. corporations have social nights on campus, get to know the company in a relaxed area. if you continue to go back to the same college you can get better students coming into your interview. It also doesn't hurt to be a big time donor to the college. corp. usually pick out four or five colleges that they become mentors through large annual donations. In return they expect to get the cream of the graduating classes.

ps may i suggest you read the book. "dress for success". I think it came out around 1980.
