Seeker of Truth Re: "here in Toronto" There is no single "pay rate" for public school teachers here in the USA as the public school system is run and funded locally. In some places here school teachers are paid very well and in other places less well; you might call it a matter of "local choice" (and we like it this way).

Another thing about the way our funding of the schools work: it is extremely progressive as in most school districts nearly all the money comes from local property taxes and it is of course the well off (I think that I may have bought and paid for a school or two over the years <g>) who own the property that is subject to the tax.

So whatever the schools cost the burden falls mostly on the well off where in other countries the funding comes from the national budget. Our system is better and very fair to the poor.
