They do make pepper spray specifically for bears in Kalispell, MT. It is called "Counter Assault" grizzly tough pepper spray. It is about the size of a Gillette shaving cream can and comes with a belt holster. It fires approx 30 feet. It is sold in local gun stores here.
I carry mine on all hikes.

I doubt they will allow you to take firearms into a National Park.

I carry sidearms concealed in fanny pack quick draw holsters. And I operate on the theory that I'd prefer that discussion to occur over the dead body of an attacking bear than over my dead body.
