Its already been publicly stated that Iran is a decade or more from being able to make uranium for bombs. Plus, Iran is apparently threatening to cut off oil production and raise world oil prices higher than they are. China is listening to that.

We're only about 25% from the oil prices that existed (in real terms) during the oil shocks of the last century. Bush says that the transportation bill will provide a needed impetus for the economy.

Ya think the US government wants to see a war over oil that halts the progress of megacorporations?

IMO, Iran has been busily gaining international support from China to Russia to Pakistan to India and, OMG, Iraq. This is while the Bush administration negotiates with axis of evil NK (thank goodness it's not Bolton) and gets horrendously bogged down in Afghanistan and Iraq. This further bolsters the case of: if you have nukes you get diplomats, if you don't have nukes you get toppled.

All in all, for a medium sized country dominated by a repressive theocratic regime straight out of the middle ages, Iran is doing a pretty good job solidifying its PR position.

Still, if the Bush administration is bent on Iran's oil wealth, no amount of truth telling will stop it from making a mess of it.

Hey, we can get 100 million people in the ME furious at us. That, and thievery, appears to be the special world class talent of the Republicans.
