Separation of Church and State is a very American concept. The Greeks and Romans combined religion and government. The kings of Europe all claimed a divine right to rule the people. And now America is falling back to a form of a combined government/religion too. In Revelation the harlot riding the beast drunk with the blood of the saints is the apostate Christian Church. That ought to give an idea of where we're headed today.
