HP Selects American Power Conversion as Uninterruptible Power Supply Vendor Of Choice For HP NetServer Systems
PALO ALTO, Calif. and WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Hewlett- Packard Company (NYSE:HWP - news) and American Power Conversion (APC) (Nasdaq:APCC) today announced that APC has been named the preferred uninterruptible power supply (UPS) vendor for HP NetServer systems. As reported by International Data Corporation, HP is the No. 2 PC-server vendor(1), based on worldwide shipments in the first half of 1997.
``APC's Smart-UPS(R) products provide an outstanding solution for meeting power-protection needs for HP NetServer systems,'' said Duncan Campbell, worldwide marketing manager of HP's Network Server Division. ``We selected APC based on the reliability and manageability of its products and its extensive worldwide distribution and support capabilities.''
``APC is proud to expand our relationship with HP by offering HP NetServer system customers a selection of quality power-protection solutions, enabling them to better manage their specific power needs,'' said Ed Bednarcik, general manager of APC's Network Power Solutions Division. ``By supporting the HP NetServer line with APC's Smart-UPS products, we are clearly offering customers 'best-of-breed' power-protection solutions.''
As part of the expanded relationship, the two companies intend to collaborate on future product development, with the objective of providing industry-leading power-management capabilities on HP NetServer systems. The first output of this relationship is a new family of rack-optimized UPS products, APC's Smart-UPS NS series. These products were designed specifically for HP's recently announced rack-optimized HP NetServer LXr Pro system. The Smart-UPS NS products have the same industrial design as the NetServer LXr Pro system; are fully compatible with the HP rack environment; and can be integrated with HP's server management-tools, such as HP OpenView and HP NetServer Assistant.
In addition to joint development activities, the two companies plan to work together on a range of marketing activities. HP intends to participate in the ``ProtectME! With APC'' program, which includes advertising and channel promotions.
Today's announcement follows other recent announcements, which include APC assuming responsibility for support of HP's former PowerWise UPS line and APC integrating its PowerNet Manager with HP OpenView Network Node Manager.
The Smart-UPS NS series and APC's standard Smart-UPS products, which are recommended for other products in the HP NetServer family, are sold and supported via APC's distribution channels and can be ordered immediately.
