Knightly, let me help you explain about "brown shoes" .

(Forum members probably don't understand what you're
saying.)

It was in 1954 when the U.S. Army decided to get away
from "moron brown" uniforms.

They adoped the first class uniforms in green. And,
they started issuing black low quarter shoes and boots
to better match the new color of the uniform.

Those of us who were in the old brown shoes and boots
were ordered to get black shoe dye and polish and re-dye
the "old issue".

Off to the PX we had to go .....<G>
