But they are all deeply wrong about policy. I think you've said something in the past about shedding heat, not light. This statement sounds like that to me,
Karen, the point of the statement to which you are responding is to note that bad policies and bad people are not isomorphic with one another; ditto for good people and good policies.
I disagree, at very deep levels, with much of the framing of postings here. That should surprise no one.
But I don't consider someone with whom I disagree a disagreeable person, necessarily. There are clearly some disagreeable posters of all political perspectives on SI. Bad manners are no respector of political points of view. But there are also more than a few very interesting, very fine people.
As for explaining positions, god help us, my keyboard is simply worn down from trying to do that.
This little place is a terrific hangout for right wingers. Bill does a great job of finding many essays/articles/blog comments/whatever that reinforce your point of view.
Nothing wrong with that. It's an alternate universe. You can find those throughout the internet, several on SI, of both left and right persuasion.
And one final note. Negative stereotypes about folk who have different political persuasions are one of the curses of our time. Let's simply put them to the side. It is simply not the case that Dems are less reasonable than Reps. Believing that is one of the problems, not a step toward a more vibrant, engaged political culture. |
