All they had was their pre-war ability and in some fields that was considerable. The whole Soviet empire rolled on copies of pre-war designs mostly from Eastern Europe till the very end; Jawa, CZ, MZ ect.

If you are speaking of Iran, without the tariffs you wouldn't even have the 42 year old English Hillman copy you are talking about. With no tariff walls Iran would have NO auto industry at all. Iranians would have had the choice of walking or riding in an import. YO seem to believe that the degree of perfection of the cars and other locally produced stuff is an important quality of life issue...It is not.

Globalism is wrong and won't last much longer..JMO..and hope
