Permit me just a couple more observations:

Jesus was no ascetic -- you can read about him changing water into wine -- a pretty simply material need at a wedding.

And yes, some things certainly will rise higher on our list than a stock performing well or getting the best price for something we are going to buy -- BUT let me tell you what I think the net result is of the idea ONLY the BIG things belong on my prayer list --

Here is the net result -- certain portions of your life are "walled off" -- not the domain of God -- if you are unwilling ask about such things -- how far are you away to thinking that God simply does not care --

I am not saying this about you, but show me someone who will only pray when faced with a crisis -- say a health crisis or a financial crisis -- what have you -- and I'll show you someone who may not be listening to God on a daily basis in all aspects of their lives. God's will isn't that we "escape" EVERY crisis - because some crises are for us -- that we may grow and may glorify Him -- but perhaps it is possible that we do make some crises, by not being in contact about what we consider minor decisions.

Our perspective -- our view of things is LIMITED -- what we consider often to be minor acts of service can have very large reach -- if God so wills it.

I want to listen to God in the SMALL things He wants me to do. I've seen so many small things turn into things that were so much larger than me or anything I had envisioned.

Not meant to be a rant against you personally.

I have often been in the assembly and heard folks praying that the US would be an instrument of world peace -- now theologically, I think that is baloney -- but it is someone else's prayer and I would not criticize such a request openly to that person. There are good motives behind it.

I have heard some preachers say that the bulk of our prayers should be for others -- I agree with this statement -- but I am not being honest with myself or with God if I don't admit my concerns and cares before Him -- and He has TOLD me to do it. What does "everything" leave out??

I can't see inside someone elses heart, so it's inappropriate for me to judge someone else's request, unless the request is just plain evil.
