Any limitation on term of service of Article III judges (those whose terms are set by Article III of the Constitution) (that is to say, for life, under good behavior, which is most federal judges in federal trial courts (but not administrative law judges)) would, in my opinion, require a Constitutional amendment.
Yes, it's true that (in general) judges are paid less than lawyers. Many, if not most, judges were pretty well off before they went on the bench, and see their service on the bench as a higher calling.
The same is true with respect to most Presidents, most Senators, many Congress Critters, and many Secretaries of federal agencies e.g., Secretary of Defense, and so forth.
If any sitting Justice envies the grass on the other side of the fence, the alternative is clear, and no doubt the law firms would love to have them. |
