energyplay Re: "Sputink panic-space racers" LMAO I printed out and filed your post with school stuff for future reference. I have young kids in the public schools and have found myself in the presence of some pretty odd ducks a time or two related to their schooling. This school system here is a good one and very conservative; I have been assured that there is a minimum of the "touchy-feely" garbage here by friends in a position to know. I spend lots of time with them on their lessons partly for the purpose of ferreting out any PC garbage in their lessons or textbooks and pointing out to them the errors in the propaganda and also providing them with an insight to its intended purpose. Now they are better at it than I am. <g> My kids are good students, one in the gifted program.

I have heard of the Satinist John Dewey and am very vaguely familiar with the concepts you outlined. I intend to do some research into the subject, in the spirt of a researcher studying demonic possession. <g> That Pew Foundation is a whole nest full of subversives.

Years ago I served on an advisory board to a high school vocational school and it was a fine experience, well run outfit and happy hardworking students. No new-age garbage. Most of the instructors (drafting, welding, electrical) came directly from industry and had NO education courses. Thats why they were good teachers. Later some of them were forced to take "education" courses at a local junior college, even the drafting guy with a masters degree. What a waste.

Your "space racers" may have been allied to another group that was not helpful at all, though probably well intended. Back in the late 1950's there was the idea that not only were the Ruskies super-smart with their Sputnik and space-dog but also that "comrade Boris" was a big physically tough guy and that he and his cohorts may literally bury us in some future conflict because American kids were so soft and "out of shape". Hence was born the big push to expand PE in the public schools. I think JFK was a big believer in this idea. Probably the biggest long term effect of this effort is a vastly expanded demand for artificial joints due to athletic injuries decades ago.

In theory this may have been harmless but it resulted in the school faculty being larded up with a bunch of dumb "jock" types. The guy who majors in PE and minors in education is not likely to be big on brainpower. Do I have this figured about right?
