Well, to put it into perspective, I would argue that Communism was a worse threat, but we did not use the US military to hunt for Communists in the US during the Cold War.

Yes, the communists were a threat. But, a worse threat? CB, you must be kidding. How many americans did the soviet come over and kill? How many times did they directly attack us here in the USA?

Now, if you are talking about the thousands and thousands of their own that they murdered, that is different. In that respect, they are in the same league as hussein, bin laden and pat pol.

The soviets/communists might well have attacked us but for the strength of our military and the threat of MAD. Guys, like Carter did not understand it in spite of attending the USN Academy. The terrorists we are fighting today don't give a damn about MAD or death. They welcome it. Today's threat is insidious compared to the soviet regime.
