I think that Christianity and Communism is the recipe for Islam. Take all civil rights from a person and make them get down 5 times a day to pray. Make the women wear the hijab. Beat them if they don't. Circumcise young girls to make them more submissive. Create an international brotherhood of followers that have a moral duty to respond to fatwas to support their Muslim brothers. Take children away from their mothers if they are divorced. Nope, doesn't sound very appealing at all to me.

People can suggest that the inalienable rights that we support in this country are arbitrary and meaningless. They may suggest that other people do not believe in concepts like democracy. When you look at the enforcement of religious practice through fundamentalism and intolerance, one begins to really appreciate how important civil rights are in protecting innocent people in a modern society. Civil rights are the only way to protect man from religious intolerance.

I am really surprised to see how little support the great defenders of civil rights are when it comes to defending these rights for other people. I think the libs tend to duck away from their ACLU roots and apply a completely different set of instructions - noninterference. I do not support the argument that we become morally bunkrupt if we fight to help an area of the world free themselves from religious dictators that brutally repressed the people in Afghanistan and Iraq. Nor will I say it is our duty to go out and determine this right for all people.

I find it shocking the only news to which the critics pay much attention are the anti Bush headlines. Some will argue that Bush failed to generate enough respect. However, given the hostility after the 2000 election, there was no chance the libs would ever treat Bush with any degree of decency. The loss in 2004 was shocking since the distortion of the polls by the media made it seem like Kerry would pull off an upset.
