I do not think this word means what you think it means.

A straw man isn't the opening gambit in an argument.

First you make an argument, then I raise a straw man to sidestep or mischaracterize your argument.

Unless you mean that my "straw man" was the argument that giving Presidents unprecedented power is risky.

I understood your argument to be that the powers being discussed are not unprecedented. In which case, my statement about unprecedented power would not be a straw man. Mistaken, perhaps, but not a straw man.

If you believe that giving Presidents unprecedented power to use the military in the US is NOT risky, then maybe you could explain why you think this.
