I saw that - bequests are usually equal but inter-vivos transfers go to slacker-loser kids :) (Lots of papers back that up) Of course they could be the altruistic kids who work for charities or raise families while the others pursue the big bucks...

One creative thinking case I know in LA. Her father made her an employee of his right through grad school, with company provided BMW and living in parents' owned apartment in Santa Monica. Of course she never did any actual work for him. Now she is working for a living. Still has the apartment and car though. She was friends with my former girlfriend cause no-one else could take her attitude it seems in that grad program :) She was a BAD influence though LOL. Now she's married and expecting a child I wonder what the child will be like? A met her father - he was a nice guy. Immigrant from Russia, a structural engineer who now is an "investor". Mother a dentist. Modest home in the Hollywood Hills. No, actually it is pretty modest, but nice view.
