I wasn't talking about isolating Japan for several years. A couple of weeks after dropping the first atomic bomb is more like what I was considering, to see if they would surrender. There was really no justifiable reason in my mind to drop the second bomb after three days.

Do you believe that the lives of a quarter of a million Japanese civilians are worth less than the lives of 200,000 POWs? So much less that a few more days couldn't have gone by?

If you were actually following my argument, or reading the articles that were posted, Truman's ulterior motive in dropping those two bombs was American superpowerdom in the postwar arena. If he had simply wanted the war to end as quickly as possible, one very likely would have been enough, and surely a few days' wait would not have killed all those 200,000 POWs.
