Our founding fathers were anti religion in government. Very much so. I have posted all the quotes to prove this. In fact, I was kind of shocked to find out that most of our founding fathers sounded like athiests, at least in terms of giving Jesus christ any respect. But one thing is clear, they did not trust fundamentalist religions one iota. And neither did Barry Goldwater or Abraham Lincoln, founders of conservatism and the GOP.
These rightwing religious pundits are bigtime liars when they talk about the founding fathers. "Under God" means a general kind of spirituality, nothing specific. Look up the real quotes. Washington, franklin, Jefferson, Madison, etc., all very much against any churches mixing in government, especially fundamentalists whom they considered totally irrational and fanatic, therefore dangerous to democracy. Also, anti-semitism was common until very recently in history.
Freedom of religion means freedom to believe anything. Or nothing. And we're all equal under that law. I can worship my dog is I want to. And you can't make me worship James Dobson's version of Jesus. In my public school, I don't want to hear your prayer. if I want to pray, I make my own prayer. You keep yours to yourself. And if you try to tell me I'm immoral, those are fighting words. So back off. |
