I see you entire perspective as rationally flawed. I think of threats as individuals and not countries or religions. The Soviet Union under mental case stalin was a threat. The Soviet Union moved slowly to very democrat like politicians after Stalin. The very democrat like politicians, the hilaries who led the Soviet Union would only murder millions if they could do it and not be killed doing it. There are within the current Islamists some very dangerous people. They plan to kill and are willing to die doing it.

I believe it is quite possible to engineer the deaths of a few thousand today.

Iraq under sadam represented a threat. It was a threat because Sadam was out of touch with the reality of risk and reward. Iran and North Korea are threats because it seem real nut cases run each.

Now there are nut cases who pose no danger. For example Howard Dean is the DNC leader.
