Fortunately, that hasn't happened yet (knocking the earth off its axis), but we aren't out of the woods there, either, as the Russian nuclear stockpile is still large and that country is not exactly what I'd call stable. It doesn't pay to underestimate the Chinese response to any perceived intervention on Taiwan's behalf when they attempt to invade it, which they probably will. Rational is not the adjective that springs to mind.

Of course, there is always the happy thought that the only thing standing between lunatic Muslim extremists and a few atom bombs attached to missiles right now, at this moment, is the Pakistani military, another rock of Gibraltar. -g-
