Interesting article! Thanks. (I admit it - I was being lazy and not googling for details because I found it easier to pick your brain).

Given the moribund state of the German economy and the inability of either of the major parties to summon the political will to make the necessary infrastructure changes, I imagine it is unreasonable to assume that the support lost to the Left Party is almost all from the SPD, and is instead drawn from both parties, like the protest votes here in the United States for Ross Perot in 1992.

Anyone care to ponder what would happen if Germany tried to send all those foreign workers (mainly Turks) back to Istanbul? How many Turks are in Germany now, a million?
