dadunes Re; "CIA" Maybe I overstated that a bit. I sure didn't invent that idea and I first heard it from Georgia people I know who went to Washington with Carter and served in his administration. Carter had a really big fight with the CIA from day one, cutting their staff by 1000 agents and Carter staffers I know were very suspicious of CIA "dirty tricks". I know of a few things they were pretty sure were CIA "tricks" but I'm not going to mention them here. But as far as I know even the most paranoid among them have no real evidence of CIA involvement in the Iran business. But some of them suspected it. True of not I have no idea.

You must admit it was a pretty strange occurrence. There was no reason what so ever for the Iranian revolutionaries to fear Carter as he had no desire to see the Shah's government preserved.
