[Nortell, Westell, BT]

John --

I'm still trying to figure out the Nortel contract with BT as it relates to the over-all ADSL deployment. Is this outside of that?

And, if not, does this mean Fujitsu and Alcatel may not be winners in the same way the analysts have been predicting?

In addition to figuring out where Nortel fits into the scheme of BT's ADSL universe, I'm trying to figure out how Westell's DSLAM ties in to Nortel's Magellan ATM switch.

Service Controller's first application will be the joint Nortel/Westell ADSL network offer, which includes the Westell's SuperVision DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM) and customer premises equipment (CPE) as well as Nortel's Magellan Passport ATM switch. The Westell equipment will support the functionality of Service Controller. "We're excited by the new service capabilities Nortel's Service Controller adds to our SuperVision xDSL platform," said Robert Faw, President and CEO of Westell, "and proud to be the first high speed ADSL supplier to exploit this new capability." >>>

This June 3 announcement is for Nortel's Service Controller and the first applications will be the "joint Nortel/Westell ADSL network offer which includes Westell's SuperVision DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM) and customer premises equipment (CPE) as well as Nortel's Magellan Passport ATM switch."

Correct me if I'm wrong, aren't they referring to two products? ---- one, the DSLAM and the other, the Magellan Passport ATM switch?

As you well know I'm no techie, so I need someone to explain how Westell's DSLAM connects to Nortel's ATM switch other than the Service Controller works with both applications. Clearly, I'm missing something.

If Westell's DSLAM were part of the BT contract, wouldn't they be pasting billboards all over the NY subway??? London Underground??? Paris Metro??? Wouldn't sky writers be cruising up and down the California coast???? Wouldn't analysts be. . .

Nah, I won't go there.

Incidentally, I'm expecting Westell to get part of the BT award, I'm just surprised Nortel's ATM switch is the conduit.

Needing help. .
