I don't doubt that you think so, bbm. The problem with the right/left wing labels in conversations like these is that they assume some sort of loyalty to political parties or ideological frameworks.

For many policy disagreements, that's simply not only not the case. But using a political framework that started during the French Revolution, just doesn't cut it.

I see some use for the left/right distinction, as sort of conversational placeholders, abbreviations if you please, that let the conversation get on to other things. But other than that, they are not only a waste, they are dangerous to serious political conversation. And their widespread use as vehicles for us/them thinking, yet one more illustration of the sad state of affairs.
