Ted, But religion is just another cultural form.....like joining a choir or a political party.

Not really, Ted. I think that's the fundamental flaw in your assumptions.

Maybe you'd like to draw out the difference between "religion" and "spiritualism" in your mind, because to me, it seems you've built up a "wall of separation" between the two. You've said in the past that you believe in spiritualism. Am I correct?

Religion initially was a philosophy and way of life that developed from worshipping a particular deity. However, over the millennia, it has evolved into more of a cultural artifact like the Knights of Columbus. There is a lot of pomp and ritualistic behavior that every one in a particular religion follows, a grand master in the form of a priest or minister or rabbi or mullah, and a great deal of socialization. Its often a way to meet people and get grounded in a community. For many people, its understandably inavailable. In general, it has very little of what I consider spirituality. Certainly, one can find spirituality in a church but I believe one can find spirituality in a forest as well.

Its hard for me to describe spirituality. For me, its more a feeling than anything else. Its a feeling of being connected with the world around you, with nature.......with people. I think of it as the life force that permeates all living beings. I don't need a religion to connect with it nor realize its value.
