We never even made it to Vietnam in any of our history classes... it was in the curriculum, but we always ended up finishing behind schedule. I believed until I was like 19 that we won Vietnam. I just assumed, wrongly, that all wars were existential in nature, and that if we'd lost one, we wouldn't be a country anymore. I also thought that Presidents couldn't be bad people and that elections were about who was most qualified to be President. I didn't know from different ideologies. Boy, have I grown up. 80% of the people I've encountered in my life don't get much beyond the above. -Z
