Roger, one very minor data point - I am in the market for a car. I locked-in my loan at my credit union (for 90 days) a couple of weeks ago at 8.25%. (Actually, 7.75% after their automatic payment discount). When I was at the credit union the other day, I noticed that they had bumped the base rate from 8.25 to 8.45.

Also, FWIW, one of the car salesmen said that he had heard "rumors that the Fed will raise in November". Don't give that one much creedence, except that car dealers are in a position to fret about such things and would tend to stay on top of it.
