Yeah, I saw that WSJ story and mentioned it in an earlier post this afternoon.

Without MLS software, I have no access to data on how inventory has changed over the past year, unlike the good folks at our local Assn. of Realtors. I just started counting listings in a particular price range in a particular zip code as of August 5.

The inventory growth thing has been common knowledge for a while and reported widely in local newspapers. Where there used to be many buyers for one house, there have been one or two for most houses in recent months, according to an agent I know from another zip code on the opposite end of my county.

Historically speaking, that's still a lot of buyers vs. not many sellers. <<gg>>

During the last downturn, various segments of the DC market accumulated 14-month inventories or even more. We're not close to that yet.
