I will always believe that the 9/11 Commission report was a CYA whitewash, in part dictated by political expedience, that is to say, the upcoming election, agreed to by both sides. Neither the Bush administration nor the Clinton administration are untarnished by the actual facts but Clinton administration comes off worse because they swept it all under the rug for years, while Bush had less time (but still dropped the ball).

One might also point out that political hardball for the sake of hardball caused the Clinton impeachment, and the 2000 election debacle, both of which sucked up enormous resources that could have been put to better use.

All of this is thanks to the Internet and cell phones and other new technology -- the ability to share information and communicate rapidly can be used for good (stopping the bad guys) or evil (being a bad guy, fighting each other over trivia for the sake of fighting.)
