<< I did Cable Maintenance for 4 months during a strike and I was fixing all kinds of problems. >>

Does that ever bring back memories.

About 30 years ago when I worked for Bell Canada in Montreal, they put me, an 'Anglophone', on the information switchboard after 4 hours of training during a strike ( and in the glorious tradition of Bell, sent most of the 'Francophones' to English Toronto ).

When the callers spoke too fast in French, I used my only good phrase to ask them to dial again please and since there were another dozen operators, I had a good shot of missing their next call.

Many funny stories from the engineers on those boards.

:-))

PS - Yes I know how bad the local loops are. The wires are hanging out of the connection box on the cable outside my house. I complained and they came and wrapped the box closed with black tape, but since it doesn't close properly, the wires keep dropping out the bottom after a windstorm. Nice exposure to rain and snow.
