I have to tell you something that happened recently. We were on break in one of our classes and a group of us were outside talking. One of the women in the group is Asian American. I didn't know from what part of Asia is her family.......but I would have guessed Chinese.......she's much taller than the average Korean....around 5'11" and her features are different from most Koreans that I've seen. In any case, she was talking about traveling in China. So I asked her if she found the Mandarin dialect jarring.......because I do. It kind of grates on my nerves. Well, she sort of flinched......and then some others in the group piped up.....but Ina is Korean. I said so what.....not realizing that they thought I thought she was Chinese American. It was only later that I figured it out. Even if I had thought she was Korean, it was still not big deal IMO. I guess you would call it the strong need for liberals to be PC. I found it kind of endearing that they wanted to protect Ina.....who btw does not need to be protected......she works out and she's very bright with a strong tongue. <g>
