Cheney, Rumsfeld and Bush do not seem to all be speaking in unison anymore. Several political analysts have commented on that recently. Do you think there is a schism behind the scenes, or what else might account for this? The Bush administration has always been highly on message, so this is surprising. Is Cheney keeping the true believers' spirits up while more moderate voices start letting people down easily, gradually? Could Cheney be off his rocker? The possibilities are endless!

No, I think they are floating several different boats: 1) to see what sells best, and 2) to cater to the differing segments of the population now that the country is less unified over the Iraqi war.

This talk of a schism is just wishful hoping on the part of the media. And the Bushies love anything that confuses the issues for them.

IMO the only way to beat these people into submission is to hold their feet to the fire 24/7 until they are screaming. We are not anywhere close to that yet.
