I don't share your confidence that rational
discussion can be had with the radical left denizens
of SI. While there are those who claim to be "moderate"
or "progressive", for the most part they're just a tad to
the right of folks like Chomsky, if not to his left.

The problem is that they tend to adopt the latest
DNC talking points as interpreted by the MSM, without
much critical assessment, and cling to these like
a novice swimmer grasps the side of the pool.

Dog paddling to the center for discussion carries with
it a risk of drowning, or at the very least, the discomfiture
caused by the absence of a life preserver in the form
of talking points mantras. Most are not willing to
take that risk and therefore prefer to regurgitate
oft-forwarded emails as sterling examples of
absolute "truth".
