Hard drive light Blink . . Blink

Well . . . the culprit was found, I guess. Swapped the CD-RW and DVD-RW drives between the two machines. The blinking follows the CD drive. It is probably the auto insert notification (or whatever that is called). We used to be able to turn this off in W98. I can't find anything related to it in the W2K PRO I am using. Did see a mention on some M$ site about a fix for this auto insert thing, but it was only for Windows Server 2003 and XP, not for the W2K I am using. Drat!

Did it do this before Windows Media Player was installed? Can't remember. Leaving a CD in the tray does not make it go away. Learn to ignore it, I guess. Or, get a DVD-RW to replace it. I love the DVD-RW from Lite-On. Anybody want a CD-RW?

My thanks to you folks who responded.

These blinks remind me of what CD-ROM drives used to do when watching for automatic insertion alerts. I've gone through everything possible to find if any thing is polling a drive. No luck.
