I have no problems with your view. It would be a gross understatement to say that it was a controversial decision. I doubt that anyone was more aware of this than Harry S. Truman, who had the final say. I do think that HST may have underestimated the destructive power of the bombs, as they were a new revelation, unbelievable to many or most people, notwithstanding the test in the desert. Indeed, I think the Japanese may well have been skeptical.
