Summer has been great

I thought the website was a joke, but then my husband sent me a bunch of other links related to it. Oh well. The good news (if you'll pardon the irony of using that phrase :-) is that even with superstitious people, we've gotten to where we are. The bad news is that where we are is a place where the destructive power of a few superstitious people can blow up quite a lot of the rest of us. On balance, though, I have to say I'm very well pleased to be alive now- and to have lived a long and happy life (and I expect to live a bit more) and if it ends, well, it ends- but it's been a good time to be alive. I've eaten like a king or queen in the 14th century (better, really). I've had the kind of health care no one in previous generations could have accessed, no matter what their income, because of advances in medicine. I've travelled in luxury, and enjoyed the very best the world has to offer (as I suspect many people on SI have). It's hard to be very depressed when I think about all I've had, and all I have now. In fact, it's downright impossible.
