Yes, this is the thing that disturbs me the most. Iraq is what I believe has been commonly called, "the cradle of civilization". At one time or another it was one of if not the most powerful nation of the known earth. Even up until my youth and young age I never remember reading or hearing anything really negative about the country or its people. Then Saddam comes along and now we have what appears to me to be among THE STUPIDEST people or maybe I should say THE STUBBORNEST people. It appears to me on the surface that the Sunni's in a hopeless bid to retain sole power would STYMIE the very Constitution that would protect their rights. The game seems to be with them ALL OR NOTHING. Foolishly, IMHO, we allowed that this constitution (which I am sure could be worked out between the Shiites and the Kurds) can be rejected by a majority of the voters in only 3 provinces (Sunnis are majority in 4). It very well could be its IMPOSSIBLE to have any Constitution that can be approved. I am beginning to believe that if the Sunnis dont want to be a part of an elective government that perhaps the Kurds and Shiites should combine, set up their own government and jointly take on the Sunnis just as the North had to fight the South in our own country once and settle this matter once and for all. jdn
