how do you explain why we're having to keep over a hundred thousand soldiers in Iraq Ed, Right now we have just over 130,000 troops in Iraq. We have drawn down our strength over there this year by some 30,000 without making a single announcement. Forty years after WWII ended we still had 265,000 US Troops in Germany. It is now 55 years after that war and we still have 50,000 troops in Germany. Germany suffered 3,500,000 deaths in WWII before they had taken enough to surrender. America suffered over 400,000 deaths and we continued to take the fight to the enemy to the last day of the war. The problem in Iraq is the same one we have in America...Not enough people have been killed in Iraq or in America to make everyone want to quit hostilities. Why is the Iraqi population refusing to give us what our military euphemistically calls "good intelligence?" You may want to verify your sources on that one. In the briefings (given by men who had just returned) I attended at Ft Campbell, KY and in Nashville in July, I heard a completely different version of your take on the subject of Iraqi assistance to US Forces.
