"Right. You said judges."

So? Are you claiming the judges were Democrats? And even if, that they were unable to over come their party affiliations to do what is right? What a load of...

FWIW, it was the same 3 judge panel that declined to overturn the redistricting plan when it was challenged on the grounds that if they were going to do the redistricting so late, they needed to use up to date census figures instead of the 2000 ones. If they are as partisan as you imply, they would have done that. You make certain assumptions on the politics of this area that aren't grounded in reality. For example, your claim that Texas Democrats promoted drawing districts to enhance certain minorities chances is so far from reality as to be ludicrous. Until recently, Texas has had roughly the same percentage of whites, blacks and latinos. But you'd never know it if you looked at the people who get elected, they tend to be almost exclusively white. There are several reasons for that, most are structural, but the drawing of districts to make sure that incumbents get re-elected is a big factor. While that is pretty distasteful, at least they had people who have been representing them and the people seem to have been satisfied. Now we have a situation where it was done strictly on ideological grounds. And that is steamy load.
