The Republican party definitely IS driven by poll numbers (thank goodness for those Congressional elections every two years!), as well as the reality that there is probably no way we can win in Iraq, and if we stay longer we might lose much more catastrophically in terms of U.S. casualties and our inability to recruit enough soldiers to protect our interests around the globe.


As I said, time will tell. We'll see what happens in 2006. Before you get too excited about any Democratic gains in that congressional election, remember that the party in the majority typically loses seats in the off-year election.

I think you will soon see support for the war in Iraq crumble to almost nothing except for the true believers. You can already see from the news article I posted tonight that some Republican leaders are backing away from our commitments in Iraq.
