i thought it was terrible management at eastern that failed.

There was enough blame to go around on both sides. Typical of many airlines. Management repeatedly rolls over to union demands leaving us with a bankrupt transportation industry not being funded in part by Uncle Sam. So for me, it was poor airline management enhanced by stubborn union work rule and salary demands.
