Linear Tech Set For 'Late But Strong Recovery'
Ed Lin, 08.22.05, 5:01 PM ET

Banc of America Securities upgraded Linear Technology (nasdaq: LLTC - news - people ) to "buy" from "neutral" and raised estimates and the target price.

Banc of America said Linear's recent revenue underperformance "is likely to be corrected by a resumption of strong sales growth in coming quarter" and sees a "late but strong recovery" for the company.

Linear has prospects for gross-margin expansion "slightly better" than what the Street is predicting, the research firm said. Banc of America also likes Linear's valuation, on an absolute and relative basis, and sees "fundamental outperformance over the next few quarters."

The firm raised Linear's calendar 2006 earnings estimate to $1.60 per share from $1.58 and raised the 12-month price target to $44 from $42.

Elsewhere in its coverage of semiconductors and analog and programmable logic devices, Banc of Americas two top picks are Maxim Integrated Products (nasdaq: MXIM - news - people ) and Altera (nasdaq: ALTR - news - people ), both rated at "buy" with respective price targets of $52 and $27. The firm's two least favorites are Lattice Semiconductor (nasdaq: LSCC - news - people ) and Mentor Graphics (nasdaq: MENT - news - people ), both rated at "sell" with respective target prices of $4 and $8.
