Greg; Apple does not own IBM or Motorola, who make and sell the CPUs Apple uses. Currently there is a shortage of high end Apple CPUs, to the point that large orders are being delayed or substituted.
If you are unaware of this read some independent Mac oriented websites, and find out. It is hadrd to say if this is a true shortage or if Motorola is playing hardball.??
In addition you are quite wrong about Apple on the price performance curve. They might have a better CPU, but it is much more expensive, so they only lead the performance curve(if you do not count the DEC Alpha and a few others.) They do not lead the price curve, which is the buying curve except for niche players in graphics/music. If you go forth believing Apple is best in all areas, how do you account for the failures?
Wintels are far stronger in Asia than Apples. The only partial exception is Japan, where the higher price of Apples was lost in a generally higher priced sales and distribution system.
Does APple tell IBM and Motorola what price Apple will pay for CPUs??, no of course not.
So all my statements are clear and accurate, any more questions.

Bill
