I like it ... and think it will see a lot of use. I like that the leading zeroes can be dropped. Also that yy = 2005 works just as well yy = 5. Good job.

But I have one suggestion.

Put the first message that meets the date criteria at the bottom of the list ... just like the reply # specified is put at the bottom of the list. A decision would need to be made about what to do if the list is then "too short". Keep "it" at the bottom of the list ... or expand the list to the "standard" and let "it" fall where it may. I would vote for whichever is easiest and/or requires the least code.
